Okay I’m a 60 yr. Old lady. My Haier is about a yr. old, my daughter bought it for me. I have a couple of family members that would destroy things, it’s a “you won’t let me have it, well you won’t either, kind of thing”. Okay, I can’t afford to buy another, and will try to repair this one, but I’m not sure if the thermostat has been broken, or maybe it has maybe a faulty compressor. This summer, when getting ready to clean it for use, I saw something that looked like drying, greyish colored biscuit dough just inside the outer cover. However, I proceeded further to ready the unit, removing the front cover to clean the filter and the wire that attached to the fins appeared to be missing the end part that it just the naked wire. ie. I believe it’s suppose to have an exposed tip for the thermostat to work properly. I have a “smart” Haier window unit. It worked great last summer, but when I turned it on, it ran a short time, starting to feel it’s air cooling down, then just shut off. The model number: QHEK08ACW1. Think you could give me an idea whether this one would be a cheap fix, or should I use fans until I can afford to replace it. I don’t want to ask my daughter for help, she’s not my personal ATM but the summer heat could prove to be more than I bargain for.

Terry here again, sorry. But I had already done the basic troubleshooting steps the manual had as well as you suggested, but the results remained the same. It turns on, the air feels cooler, then it shuts off. It doesn’t come back on by itself, but I can repeat the same intro…turn it on, feels cooling a bit, then click it’s off again. It can’t be more than a minute from the turning it on to it cutting off.
